In the heart of Oslo’s Frogner neighborhood, the former US Embassy has been reimagined into Ambassaden, a venue that masterfully blends mid-century architectural elegance with the demands of modern social spaces. Designed in 1959 by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen, this building’s bold triangular design and intricate details have been carefully restored and updated, including the addition of a rooftop bar offering panoramic views of the city.
Behind Bars was proud to contribute to this transformation by designing and delivering custom bar stations across five unique spaces within Ambassaden. Each bar was tailored to meet the specific needs of its venue while complementing the building's distinct aesthetic.
Collaborating with interior architects Paulsen & Nilsen, we ensured every station integrated seamlessly with Ambassaden’s refined style, enhancing both its functionality and atmosphere.

The Eero indoor rooftop bar, transitions from coffee service by day to cocktails by night, with stunning views and the outdoor rooftop bar features draft systems for quick service of beer and kegged cocktails, perfect for the 360° terrace.
Inside, Frances, the wine bar and kitchen offers an open-concept design with stainless-steel bar fronts that flow into the kitchen. The Coffee Bar transforms from morning coffee to champagne and snacks, blending with the venue’s historic interior. Lastly, the Vinland brasserie bar is built for high demand, with coffee stations, ample cooling, and a chilled water well for service.
Each station was designed to support the venue's diverse offerings while maintaining Ambassaden’s refined style.
